Kansas City spoiled a no hitter bid but still fell to Pittsburgh as the Pirates prevailed in a key matchup. The game featured strong Pittsburgh hitting and late inning momentum, despite a rare no hit bid early from the KC pitcher.

Havens Steel and Merrill Iron and Steel of Wisconsin form a joint venture to deliver about 8 000 tons of steel for Lambeau Field renovations. The project adds retail space restaurants and luxury suites as part of the Packers stadium upgrade.

A private Beechcraft B 55 Baron crashed into a residential garage in Cartville killing all aboard while ground injuries were avoided. The plane departed Lake Charles Louisiana en route to Joplin Regional Airport when it went down shortly before 1 am. Debris was scattered across the neighborhood as the wing clipped a house roof. The victims included co-owners Earl Trahan and Jerry Johnson both 55, Johnie Quebedeaux 21, Shanna Shields, William Shields 29, and pilot James Willard Seaman 70, all from Lake Charles area. The plane had been purchased weeks earlier.

Elizabeth Converse Layton, known as Grandma Layton, created over 1,200 drawings after taking her first contour drawing class at 68.
