KU Death May Be Attributable To Lawmen Shooting
Coroner's jury rules Thomas Daniels died from a gunshot wound possibly fired by a police officer in the line of duty during a June 2 chase. Daniels, 45, a Bird City Kansas native and University of Kansas student, was forced to drive the fleeing suspects 140 miles through multiple roadblocks. The suspects Lynch and Sparks, Dayton Ohio fugitives, face charges for kidnapping, shootings, and robberies in Lawrence and Moraine Ohio. Officers testified that bullets came from the car during the pursuit and that Daniels was struck in the forehead as the car wrecked near Salina. Daniels worked as a night clerk at the Virginia Inn in Lawrence. Sparks, Lynch, and Daniels' case connect to additional robberies in Lawrence and Moraine.
