Heffner Fired As Reds' Pilot
Cincinnati AP reports Don Heffner has been relieved as manager of the Reds. Interim boss Dave Bristol, 33, takes over for the second half as Cincinnati aims for a return to the NL first division after a rough start. Bristol inherits a team that opened with rainouts and slumping to eighth place, 15 games behind, 37-46 at All-Star break. Heffner was informed after a team workout. DeWitt read the official note due to plane trouble. Heffner offered a position within the organization next year.
