Boston Red Sox overcame Kansas City in extra innings for a 9-4 win in 11, then 11-10 in 15. Lu Clinton from Ponca City key in Boston wins with 10 hits in 17 at bats, including a single in the 15th to score the winning run. Dick Radatz earned the win, Ed Rakow the loss.
Don Drysdale, 25, aims to become the first 30-game winner since Dizzy Dean in 1934 as the Dodgers push for the NL lead. After a 5-4 win over the Mets for his 16th victory in 21 starts, he needs about 14 wins in 11 weeks with roughly 20 decisions remaining, facing strong foes and a tight schedule.
In a coast to coast baseball night, Charley Lau, Orioles catcher, tied a major league record by four doubles as the Orioles lost 11-10 in 15 innings to Kansas City. Lu Clinton hit for the cycle for the Angels in a 5-2 win over Cleveland, while Camilo Pascual and Ray Herbert led wins for Minnesota and Chicago.
Roy Brady earned the win with three hits and three runs while fanning five. He pitched three innings of three hits and two runs before Ron Matthews relieved in the fourth, allowing six runs on one hit. Orioles starter Doug Underwood took the loss, replaced by Gene Reneau. Wellsville Methodist Baptists defeated First Methodist 16 to 5 on Monday to clinch the National division and earn a rematch with Church of the Nazarene, American Division winner, in a playoff at 8 30 p.m. Wellsville finished 5 0, erased a 4 1 deficit in the fourth with an 11 run rally paced by Wendell Hicks grand slam and Glenn Wilhite three hits. Bethany Chapel beat Trinity Methodist 12 2 in the other league game with Junior Williams winning and Chuck Sims taking the loss.
The 10 game Church Softball league tournament starts Monday night with First Baptist facing Richter Methodist as the only Monday game. Nazarene and Wellsville, unbeaten league champions, lead the top and lower brackets with byes for Wellsville and Westminster Presbyterian in the top bracket and Nazarene and First Methodist in the lower.
