Police reports show mutual battery between a 39-year-old Ottawa man and a 36-year-old Ottawa woman. A 13-year-old Melvern girl was sexually assaulted by a known suspect. Financial card stolen from an Ottawa woman. Purses stolen from a Williamsburg woman and from a Pomona woman’s vehicle.

River work opens water flow to intake at water works

On July 13 1911 crews began ditching the river bed above the intake to release large stretches of water downstream to the intake pipe. The activity aimed to improve flow and supply at the water works.

Cookie train tradition spans three generations in Salina

A Salina family keeps a second birthday cookie train tradition alive since 1953. Wanetta Heline began the first seven car train for Kathy, who built one for Amy in 1979, and Amy and Kathy created another for Haylen in 2011. The trains use graham crackers fudge stripes licorice and animal crackers to mark birthdays and bond family across generations.
