Starfish Sand Dollars and Crabs Fact Pack
Starfish can regrow after being cut into two parts that each retain center tissue. Giant Atlantic starfish reach 20 inches, with some species living up to 20 years. Starfish can egest their stomach to feed, then retract it. Sand dollars show flower-petal loops marking tubed feet and five underside grooves for food intake. The giant North Pacific giant spider crab stretches 12 feet across. Crabs shed by backing out from the back, can regrow claws, and soft shells indicate new growth.
