Former Kansas football coach and Wellington Daily News publisher Jack Mitchell died Sunday in Sun City Arizona at age 85. He led the Jayhawks from 1958 to 1966 with a 44-42-5 record, highlighted by 7-2-1 in 1960 and 7-3 in 1961, but finished with 2-8 in 1965 and 2-7-1 in 1966 before moving to Arizona. Mitchell, an Arkansas City native, was an All-American quarterback at Oklahoma.
