Ottawa Legion Slams Osawatomie 14-5 at Forest Park

Ottawa Legion exploded for eight runs in the third inning to defeat Osawatomie 14-5 at Forest Park last night. Cliff Fisher started for Ottawa and gave up five in two innings, Dennis Smith worked three scoreless frames to earn the win, while Osawatomie starter McCray took the loss. Ottawa hitters led by Jack Smith and Paul Turvey with three hits each, Spooner added two, as Ottawa plans a midweek game against Kansas City Mo Elks at 8 p.m.

Pomona Bears Capture District Tourney Title

Pomona Bears defeated Lyndon 9-3 to win the National Baseball Congress District Tournament. Lyndon led 3-1 before Pomona tied it on Tom Harrell’s two-out double in the sixth. Haig Barsegian pitched a strong 17 1 3 innings for Pomona to earn the win and district MVP honors. Six Die In Crash Near Springfield

A thundershower collision near Springfield Missouri killed six people and critically injured two others. The deceased were Aaron Leitwein 66 his wife Datrina 64 their son Harry 45 and his son Dean 13 all of Springfield and Howard Bigelow 48 and his son David 18 of Kansas City. The injured include Bigelow's other son Tommy 9 and Mrs Har ry Leitwein 43. Connie Kueser was the losing pitcher for Ottawa in a separate game with K Ramsey winning for South Side.
