Mrs Wilson reported her two year old collie stolen near Richmond last week. A neighbor saw a man place the dog in a car and drive away. Police and humane society notes trigger warnings as details remain unclear.
Area boys ages 10 to 15 can win a free trip to Kansas City in late August to see the Athletics, Orioles, and Red Sox. The Peace Food Center sponsors the baseball contest with IGA store labels counting as votes. The 110 top vote-getters will travel by bus in a caravan with outings to Swope Park Fairyland and local Kansas City area sights. New York reports an apparently wild sea affair beginning with a predawn radio tale of a Blue Star fishing boat with 21 aboard sunk by a submarine. Coast Guard and tugboats scoured 55 miles off Barnegat and New York harbor for hours, but clues remained feeble and the tale failed to confirm any ship in distress.
Lawrence special report says Paul Eugene Denning 18 of Topeka was shot June 22. John Henry Sala 65 of Denver admits firing at a man who approached his car west of Lawrence claiming ignorance of hitting anyone. Sala arrested with a .38 revolver after police linked his car to the shooting. Two Denning companions are charged again with grand larceny tied to recent Lawrence robberies.

Roy William Savage aged 56 was injured fatally last night when his sedan left U S 166 a mile west of Peru. The car overturned and Savage was pinned in the wreckage.
Fewer people from Anderson Miami and Franklin counties registered with the Ottawa office of the Kansas State Employment Service by end June, 333 vs 381 last month. Continued unemployment claims dropped from 574 in May to 401 in June, with last June at 486. New benefit rights under the amended Employment Security Act may yield 32 per week in stobless benefits, while a top weekly payment of 28 has been in effect since January 1951. Wage and cost of living increases since 1951 prompted the Legislature to raise the maximum payable, State Labor Commissioner Roy L. Warkentin notes.

Wheat showed occasional strength but rallies faltered under hedging pressure and light short term profit taking. Market attention focused on growing weather and limited export and domestic demand.
