Alligator Sighting Spurs Wichita River Search
Wichita officials pressed a midweek hunt for an eight foot alligator along the Little Arkansas River near downtown. Civil Preparedness crews and police helicopters scoured a 1.4 mile stretch after two witnesses including a city officer reported sightings. Zoo officials cautioned residents but questioned the likelihood of a wild alligator in the river, noting the climate and lack of natural habitat.
