End of subsidies will mean telephone rate hike for some areas
Wichita AP report notes the end of public subsidies for rural telephone service triggers higher rates for thousands. Four to fivefold increases hit callers around Salina, Dodge City, and Garden City as the discount service ends. About 4,000 customers in 12 communities get a two month reprieve as some small companies continue the low cost plan until Aug 31.
