Franklin County commissioners approved preliminary action for George K. Baum Company to refinance $1.5 million in county bridge bonds issued in 1990 at 6.98 percent. A Baum rep estimated a 4.7 percent rate, yielding about $245,000 in interest savings over the life of the issue, potentially ending payments in 2005 with no 2006 due, or alternatively extending to 2006 with about $60,000 savings.
