A supertanker ran aground south east of Tokyo and released about 3.9 million gallons of crude into Tokyo Bay. Dozens of coast guard boats patrolled the area as authorities feared fire from the slick and warned fishermen to stay away. The Dia mond Grace was moved to Kawasaki after discharging most of its oil and cleanup crews worked to absorb and skim the spill while Fuji’s silhouette framed the scene.
