Kansas lawmakers gavel in on health funding and tax foes
Kansas lawmakers debated the fiscal 2020 budget amid red flags in tax bills and a split legislature. Rep. Blaine Finch and Rep. Kevin Jones noted the three voter blocs and the difficulty passing measures as they reflected on the tax, budget, and school funding bills. Osawatomie State Hospital gained 6.6 million for operations and 20 new beds, and 13.2 million was allotted for state mental health centers. Restoration of the 4 percent provider privilege fee could add nearly 83 million to hospitals. Aiming to boost mental health funding, lawmakers highlighted gains and lingering issues such as out of state education costs and urban versus rural equity.
