Low Community Interest Reflected In City Parks
Ottawa's park system is described as very poor compared with similar towns. Blaine Phillips, park board chair, cites limited community support and only three serviceable city parks. Forest Park faces land loss due to flood control and a shrinking acreage. The zoo relies on donations with no new purchases, and money limits hinder expanding animal collections. A third park, Mears, is managed by Kiwanis, while two other sites are earmarked for flood control and potential future parks.
