Ottawa police arrest warrants and assault report

On Tuesday in Ottawa Donald Elder and Shondi Lakios were listed in incidents and arrests at blocks on West Second Street and North Oak Street. A 19 year old Ottawa woman reported battering by a known male. A hit and run on South Main Street left a vehicle damaged and a silver vehicle fled the scene. Warrant arrests noted for Keen in Quinton and a New Century warrant at 27700 West 159th Street.

Lenexa Woman Vows Home Changes After Carbon Monoxide Illness

Terrilynn Miller of Lenexa and her family woke with nausea and headaches as a carbon monoxide leak from a basement furnace sickened them. Crews traced the odorless gas to the furnace and authorities warned the family after readings neared dangerous levels. The family was treated and released, and the incident prompted calls for detectors. Meanwhile Kansas Highway Patrol reported a safer Christmas travel period with no fatal crashes, though there were three DUI crashes and 22 DUI arrests, while speeding citations fell to 670 from 759.

Dodge City lifts fireworks ban for New Year's Eve

Dodge City voters will be allowed to shoot fireworks from noon December 31 to 12:30 a.m. January 1 after the City Commission approved a special meeting measure. Public property remains off limits, and the town previously banned fireworks during summer amid a heatwave.

Hays man loses 1500 in Nigerian Prince scam

A Hays resident was deceived by a Nigerian Prince scam and sent about 1500 via Western Union before Christmas. Hays Police Lt. Brandon Wright says the money was not recoverable after officers responded Friday evening in the 500 block of Mission Mount. The scam centers on a royal family member asking for personal information and funds to move money abroad, then promising a larger return while stealing the donor’s money or identity.

Kansas Star casino still seeking workers for 50 jobs

AP reports the new state owned Kansas Star casino in south central Kansas has not yet hired 50 positions. Officials say about 12,000 applied for jobs including security officers servers and dealers. Approximately 5,000 are interviewed as the facility aims to be fully staffed and operate around the clock.
