In a schoolhouse near Ottawa, LeGrande Alexander Copley sparked Kansas history focused lessons on January 29, 1877, the state’s 16th anniversary. Students prepared two weeks earlier with dug up facts and stories, presenting what they learned as Kansas Day spread to schools statewide.

Beach named provost for Ottawa University campus

Vincent W. Beach of Mount Olive North Carolina has been named college provost for Ottawa University in Ottawa. He will begin mid February after serving as Mount Olive College vice president for academic affairs and earlier roles at Mount Senario College in Wisconsin. Beach earned a PhD in English from CUNY in 1988 and has held leadership roles in small private liberal arts colleges. He replaces Robert Duffett who left July 1 2000. Beach and his wife Cynthia have three children Jonathan Susan and David.

Ice Could Not Ground OSU Plane in Storm Crash
