Controversy Continues Over State Education Science Standards
A Kansas state education panel debated proposed science standards with more than a dozen revisions rejected by about two to one. Debates centered on phrasing about informed decisions, the nature of science, and whether to include alternative theories to evolution. A near unanimous tolerance pledge for teachers gained support, and the 20 page standard packet will go to the State Board of Education, which may accept a minority report despite the majority recommendation.
