Death penalty debate eyed for Kansas Senate action
Senate Majority Leader Robert Talkington said he will place a death penalty bill on the Senate debate calendar next week. The Federal and State Affairs Committee also approved a pari mutuel wagering measure, sending the capital punishment bill to the full Senate amid veto risk from Gov. Carlin. Five senators opposed the death penalty, while seven supported, as lawmakers weigh whether to override a likely veto.
