Cattle habitat expert notes cows trampling pond edges and stream banks causes erosion and muddy water. Using alternate waterers reduces stream activity by about 80 percent, encouraging fencing, gravity flow devices, and remote water sources to protect ponds and streams while lowering costs via in pasture water lines and cost-share programs.
