Ottawa wastewater plant uses gravity to move sewage
Hollon explains Ottawa’s 61 mile sewer network relies on gravity with nine lift stations to push sewage uphill, then downhill to the plant on East First Street. The system treats 2.68 million gallons daily with processes that include headworks screening, bacteria digestion, and ultraviolet sterilization before discharging cleaner water into the Marais des Cygnes.
