Grazing diversity rises with stocking pressure and grazing
Hartnett notes that moderate stocking levels boost plant species diversity more than ungrazed plots. Grazing increases habitat variety through animal movement, while stocking rates affect grasses more than the chosen grazing system. Additional practices like burning also raise diversity, benefiting both ranchers and ecosystems.

Demonstration Shows Abandoned Well Plugging At Farm
On November 28 at Fred McFarland’s farm a demonstration plugged an abandoned drilled well. Franklin County Farm Bureau arranged equipment with Bill Fuller supervising. the four hour job used bentonite, crushed rock, and a metal saw to cap the casing. Local residents are urged to plug wells to prevent runoff and pollution. Kansas law makes landowners liable for contamination and the Conservation District offers funding and guidance via the Non-point Source Pollution program. Call 242-1109 for details.
