Ottawa settlement born from river deal and Ottawa University
The Ottawa creation arose from a deal between a town company and the Ottawa tribe led by Asa Althrop Tony Jones and Isaac Kalloch. By 1864 a town site and streets were laid out, 20 000 acres moved to open the Ottawa area for settlement, and Ottawa University was promised. The railroad arrived in 1868 securing the town as county seat and rail hub.
