Erosion System May Fail Better Have Good Grass Waterways
Grass waterways are essential to control erosion on Franklin County farms. If absent or failing, other erosion controls may fail too. Proper shaping ahead of seeding, firm moist seedbeds, mulch, and proper fertilization support establishment. Use fall, winter, or spring seedings with careful planting depth and rate, and monitor after rains to repair washes.

1967 Was A Bad Year For Franklin County Soil Conservation
In 1967 Franklin County saw 488 landowners seek soil and water conservation with 265 farms applying practices, but harsh weather limited work. Brush control affected 959 acres, terraces totaled 33 projects, stockwater ponds rose to 36 projects, 69 acres of waterways completed, and drainage ditches dropped to 1,880 feet. Earl Wier cites excessive rainfall since May as the main reason for the reduced activity.
