Kansas landowners with oral leases face a March 1 change date. Written notice 30 days before March 1 is required to alter terms or terminate in favor of a new tenant. Possession dates differ by land type and reset if notice is late. Written leases override the oral lease rules and specify notice timing.
The Extension Agronomy Day in Ottawa starts January 1 at Celebration Hall with insect outlooks, new crop varieties, and a soil update. A windbreak seedling sale offers redcedars and pines for a 100-foot long, 3-row windbreak at $21, with KSU foresters available to assist in design and planning.
The Franklin County Conservation District holds its annual meeting on Thursday February 4 in Celebration Hall Ottawa. Dinner at 6 45 p.m. courtesy of the Franklin County Bankers Association and the local conservation district. A business meeting progress report and election of two supervisors are planned. Kansas Bankers Association to present Soil Conservation Awards to Jim and Mary McDaniels Clyde and Liz Berry and Lawrence Reh Kent Lash to receive Wildlife Habitat Conservation award. Contests trophies and certificates will be awarded by the district and the Federal Land Bank Associations of Kansas. Ottawa Times and Ottawa Herald editors to receive Certificates of Appreciation. John Spurling Fort Scott farmer conservation district supervisor and state vice chairman to speak.
