The Franklin County Diabetes Association will meet at 7 tonight in Ransom Memorial Hospital’s conference room A for its regular monthly session.
Dwayne Dickerson of Ray, Missouri, says his truck struck a junked car on I 35 last Thursday, then collided with Donald Potter of Burton who first hit the guardrail and spilled junked cars. Dickerson, recovering at Ransom Memorial Hospital, credits the initial impact with saving his life by pushing him back into his sleeper. He could see no reflectors or lights before the spill.

A 25 year old Kansas man, David Walters of Wichita, was killed Saturday in Eldorado Springs Canyon State Park after a climbing camming device failed. He fell about 80 feet and was found upside down by rescue workers. Walters suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene. Deputy Rick Ferguson said Walters and a friend were climbing when the device failed.
The forecast calls for mostly cloudy and windy conditions across the northern plains tomorrow with sleet and snow lingering in the northern Rockies. Cooler air moves into the coastal Northwest while the Southeast sees a dip in temperatures with sunshine returning. warm spell extends from the Great Lakes to New England.

Carl Perkins, writer of Blue Suede Shoes and a core rockabilly figure from Sun Records, died at Jackson Madison County General Hospital at 65 from complications after strokes. His hits include Dixie Fried Honey Don t Matchbox and Everybody s Trying to Be My Baby later covered by the Beatles. His influence spanned Elvis Presley and the Fab Four.
