Supreme Court upholds sex predator confinement ruling
The Supreme Court 8-1 ruled that inmates held as sexually violent predators cannot gain release by challenging confinement conditions. Washington's law remains civil rather than punitive, and inmates may pursue other actions to obtain treatment or improved conditions. The decision, in Selling v. Young, preserves state authority to detain post term predators without violating double jeopardy.
