DeWayne Lofgreen 81 of Ottawa died January 14 2002 after a lengthy illness at Olathe Medical Center. Graveside services Friday at Highland Cemetery Ottawa. Survived by two sons a daughter a stepson and stepdaughter and ten great grandchildren. Brain surgeon misreads reversed CT scan at Rhode Island Hospital

A Rhode Island Hospital surgeon operated on the wrong brain side after a CT image was placed backward on an X ray view box. The patient had right sided bleeding, but the reversed scan suggested left side bleeding. The hospital reported the incident to the state Department of Health.

Tech stocks fall after Intel earnings trim recovery hopes

Security boost after school shooting at MLK High

In Manhattan, Dozens of extra police and security officers were placed inside Martin Luther King Jr High School after two students were wounded by gunshots. Police said 12 officers and 40 security staff were added, with counselors available, and no arrests had been made. Students noted guns easily entered despite metal detectors.
