Public Works Freeze Lifted for Army Engineers Projects

The Johnson administration ended a public works moratorium on Army Engineers and Reclamation Bureau projects. No formal notice was issued, but committees were informed on opening day of the new session, with a Budget Bureau spokesman confirming the move. Savers in savings and loan associations avoided a large January withdrawal, easing potential mortgage money shortages after 1966’s deposit declines. Exact S&L figures arrive next month.
