About eight thousand aerospace workers walked off at McDowell Douglas facilities in California and Oklahoma after marathon talks only hours before the strike. UAW says the stoppage centers on matching Boeing Co. wage gains and benefits won by 24,000 workers in November. Friction remained about 40 cents per hour apart on a new package as of the strike deadline set by UAW Local 148.
