Garnett mulls firefighter pay and rail trail plans
Garnett City Commission tabled a plan to pay volunteer firefighters $10 per air ambulance call pending whether firefighters must be on site at Anderson County Hospital. A separate rail trail maintenance and funding agreement with Kansas Wildlife and Parks was discussed with clarification needed. Park use requests for a kart club races and a Lions Club triathlon were approved. Grain prices closed with wheat up one cent at 3.69 while corn stayed at 2.16. Senior tax aid sessions for Anderson County seniors begin Friday at the Garnett Senior Citizens Center.

Jack Perry owner of the Benton Antique Mall and Restaurant aims to purchase the former Town & Country Supply building at 202 S Walnut for the Ottawa Antique Mall and Restaurant. Mitch Rorabaugh of Overland Park will co own and oversee operations with plans to open the antique shop in early March and the restaurant two months later. The 17500 square foot site will feature a soda fountain and display up to three classic cars with beer sales possible but no liquor by the drink. Schools Dominate State Education Budget Plan For Next Year
The proposed plan calls for 539,300 students with an estimated rise of 6,300. Basic per pupil funding would advance from 3600 to 3630 dollars. Major allocations include 627 million for Social and Rehabilitation Services and state hospitals, 472 million for the Regents and universities, 171 million for prisons, and 95 million for Transportation.
