Real reason for crime decline behind bars
FBI statistics show a sharp drop in serious crime, but experts disagree on the cause. The piece argues that tougher sentencing and larger prison populations, about 1.6 million inmates, are the primary factors, while criticizing political spin and mainstream theories like community policing and gun laws. It notes New York’s crime drop and questions the romantic view of prisons. The author insists locked criminals reduce street crime, citing high incarceration and less risk to citizens.
