Bowles Mission In Cambodia Faces Doubtful Outcome
In Phnom Penh Cambodian officials say Ambassador Chester Bowles assured Prince Norodom Sihanouk the United States will respect Cambodia’s neutrality and territorial integrity. Bowles and Sihanouk met cordially as Bowles planned to leave Friday after talks on Vietnamese refuge issues and helicopter offers for the International Control Commission. Later in Washington the same day, Prince Sihanouk called Jacqueline Kennedy’s Cambodia mission a failure and predicted Bowles would return empty handed from current talks.
