Anderson Seeks Revenue Boost for 1964 Budget
TOPEKA RP Gov John Anderson said he will recommend four revenue increasing measures to the 1964 budget session next week. Proposals include adjustments in cigarette and liquor taxes a withholding plan for the state income tax and an abandoned property law. He said the plan will not be a new tax program but could yield 8 to 10 million dollars annually. He noted potential 2 to 3 million from the withholding plan and that the abandoned property law would reclaim property used by institutions with no rightful claim. Anderson also tied a prior proposal to merge the state sales tax and general funds which could add seven million for one fiscal year. He will deliver recommendations next Wednesday at 10 30 a m as the Legislature convenes the day before.
