Highway study shapes future of U S 59 access and growth
Ottawa planners say state decisions in Topeka will decide the number of U S 59 access points and thus curb or boost area development. The corridor plan foresees heavy industrial and residential growth north of Kingman Road, lighter growth south. City county agreements govern local zoning and rule controls along the corridor.

Sebelius forms wind group despite GOP skepticism
Gov Kathleen Sebelius announced the Kansas Wind Working Group to educate Kansans on wind technology and economics and to spur wind farm development. Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson named chairman with 33 members including environmentalists and utility officials. Republicans Melvin Neufeld and Carl Dean Holmes urged serious study of energy needs and favored Sunflower Electric Power Corp plans for coal plants, opposing the wind push. The dispute centers on meeting ongoing electricity demand while pursuing conservation and wind growth, after a permit denial for Sunflower’s $3.6 billion project. Parkinson co-chairs the Kansas Energy Council, advising policy.
