Emergency radio upgrades face grant limits in Franklin County
Franklin County officials, led by Sheriff Craig Davis, report Homeland Security funds for 2004 cannot be used for new towers without a waiver, with a potential 2008 waiver possible. Current coverage is 50 to 60 percent, and a plan for 95 percent by 2004 hinges on grant rules and future funding while officers pursue alternative sources. Also, commissioners approved a pay bump for the Sheme office administrative assistant, with Fred Ferguson absent due to illness.
