Hotel Fire Safety Lacking Before Dupont Plaza Tragedy
A June 17 1985 fire inspection of the Dupont Plaza Hotel found no smoke detectors an evacuation plan or a working fire alarm and only a limited sprinkler system. Survivors said alarms failed and warnings were minimal as lower floors burned on New Year’s Eve. Lawsuits totaling 19 million allege neglect and trapped victims.
