Contempt ruling linked to Hyatt skywalks settlement plan
In Kansas City a federal judge found hotel owners and builders in contempt for handling a settlement in state court rather than through the federal class action. The case involves the Hyatt Regency skywalk collapse of July 17, 1981, which killed 114 and injured about 200. A state plan paid $1,000 to about 1,000 involved witnesses, while up to $20 million remained for damages.
