Last Year Was Best Ever For Exporting Farm Goods
Kansas City report notes 1979 fiscal year exports set records in value and volume, with total agricultural exports reaching 31.983 billion and imports at 16.184 billion, yielding a 15.799 billion trade surplus. Corn, soybeans, cotton and fruits led gains while prices boosted values. Six leading buyers included Japan and West Germany, with a 27.171 billion overall trade deficit offset by agriculture’s surplus.

KCC to Decide Route for 50 mile Power Line in Kansas
The Kansas Corporation Commission is to decide in two to three weeks if Kansas Power and Light chose a reasonable path for a 50 mile 345 kilovolt line from the Jeffrey Energy Center to an east central Kansas substation. Landowners and Republicans oppose the eastern route as costly to farmland while Audubon Society and the Corps of Engineers back a western park area route. The company has condemned land but has secured over 80 percent of needed right of way and warns delays raise generation costs for consumers.
