Rantoul councilwoman Stottlemire dies after cancer battle
Rantoul three term councilwoman Barbara Stottlemire died Wednesday after a lengthy cancer battle. Mayor Donna Thompson said a replacement will be appointed to serve the remainder of her term through April 1993, with discussion possible at the next meeting. Stottlemire, 41, had lived in Rantoul since age 12 and died at her mother's home. Funeral services were planned for this evening at Rantoul United Presbyterian Church.

A Russian made Cubana Airlines helicopter carrying 34 refugees seeking asylum landed at Tamiami Airport in suburban Miami. Police said men, women and children were aboard and the group requested political asylum, now in Customs hands.
