A Southwestern Bell vice president told the Kansas Corporation Commission that a $63.5 million rate hike is needed to earn a reasonable return and recover costs for about 790,000 Kansas customers. The proposal would lift annual revenues about 16 percent and raise basic monthly charges for residential service.
Kansas lawmakers face a fiscal crisis as the 70th Legislature convenes. December total rainfall 3.1 inches. County forecast notes tonight partly cloudy with lows in the 20s and winds 10 to 20 mph. Tuesday expected partly cloudy and warmer with highs 40 to 45 and winds 10 to 20 mph.
The Whippoorwill once a Lakeside Players stage vessel, capsized in 1978 killing 15, now sits on a hill beside the Vassar Playhouse in Osage County. Bruce Rogers plans to sell it, citing high maintenance costs, after a $2 million out of court settlement finalized November 25. Sheriff Robert Masters recalls the boat as local scenery while noting his role was in the search and rescue.
