One fatality marks holiday near county line
A 54-year-old Baldwin City man died in a one vehicle crash near the Franklin Douglas county line Tuesday. Clifford Sheldon lost control of a 1994 Suzuki Sidekick, struck a concrete bridge rail, and fell into a dry culvert. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It was the third traffic fatality of 2002 in Franklin County with no passengers aboard. No other serious incidents occurred during the New Year holiday.

2002 Dow Ends Year With Third Straight Decline
The 2002 stock market year closed with the Dow at 8,341.63, down 16.8 percent, its worst year since 1977. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq also fell. Unemployed Claims Rise After Back-to-Back Drops
