Ten killed on Kansas roads during New Year weekend
State holiday toll rises to ten with victims including Jean D. Beaty, 22, of Wichita. She was struck by a pickup after stepping into a busy intersection at 2:15 a.m. New Year’s Day. Other deaths occurred across Kansas including Jack Workman, 52, of Clearwater, Michael B. Alt, 16, of Topeka, a 16-year-old Atchison youth, Kimberly Wolfe, a 16-year-old Atchison girl, an Olathe couple Charles J. Pearcy, 20, and Belinda Pearcy, 17, Steven L. Nichols, 21, Jeffrey L. Gray, 11, and Mary Ast, 19, among others.

1980 Easter Seals poster child shot in San Antonio
Eight year old Jeanette Alvarado, national Easter Seals poster child for 1980, was shot in the head while watching fireworks at her grandmother’s home in San Antonio. Her aunt Alice Alvarado was shot in the neck. Homicide detectives investigate motive and weapon details as the girl remains in fair condition.

Grocery Prices Close Out The Year With A Bang
