Chautauqua living history program faces end in Ottawa
Ottawa Jaycees president Tina McComb says the Chautauqua Days festival likely will cease due to debt and funding gaps after the 1998 event. Speakers and reenactors are paid, the $1 admission covers little, and volunteer demand is low as members total about 30. The Jaycees will continue the Firecracker 100 Bike Tour and Fourth of July fireworks at Forest Park, with a potential future collaboration to revive the format.
