Dr. Harold Peffly and several other members spoke in behalf of the coming flood control bond issue election and urged a favorable vote for the bonds.
Walter L. Bradford of eight miles southeast of Ottawa died yesterday at 4 p m in Cedar House nursing home after a weeklong illness. A retired farmer born July 23 1873 in Humboldt he spent 15 years in the area moving from Lawrence. Survived by wife Alice Gurwell a daughter Mrs Van M Ayer a Yale student grandson Douglas Ayer and brother Elbert Bradford. Funeral at Lamb Funeral Home tomorrow at 2 30 p m with interment in Princeton cemetery.
Admitted Richard Ledom of 109 N Locust and Thomas Murphy of 811 W 6th. Mrs Lucy Garrett of 911 S Main, Mrs Ella Foust of 622 Maple and others listed today. Births include Fred Scott and wife at 129 S Elm with a daughter, and Robert Stewart of Waverly with a son. Discharges include Richard Loper and Arthur Hopkins of Pomona, Mrs Vernon Gragg of Quenemo, Mrs John McIntosh of 1085 N Oak, and Mrs Donald Catuska with infant daughter of 528 S Cherry today.
Washington United States Senator Harley Martin Kilgore the first West Virginian elected to three consecutive Senate terms died at Bethesda Naval Hospital at 2 23 a m. He had fallen seriously ill February 25 after suffering a minor stroke during a checkup and treatment for high blood pressure.
TOPEKA Kansas Rep L F Cushenbery of Oberlin filed as a Republican candidate for position No 6 on the Kansas Supreme Court. The first term legislator is the first to announce for the seat held by Justice Walter G Thiele who retires next January.
Washington reports Sen. Knowland of California will stay in the Republican presidential race unless President Eisenhower accepts a formal candidacy. Eisenhower may declare this week his availability for a second term, with Knowland ready to enter the April Wisconsin and June California primaries if he signs papers by Friday and March 7 respectively. Knowland backs Eisenhower if he runs but will block delegates likely to favor other candidates. Senate Republicans also planned a policy committee meeting to name Sen. Schoeppel as campaign chair, replacing Sen. Goldwater who resigned.
New York reports the International Brotherhood of Teamsters will deposit more than 400000 in a Chicago bank on March 7 to cover the ILA's pressing debts, formalizing their working alliance. The plan follows last year’s accord among three IBT conferences and the ILA to jointly organize dock workers and truck drivers across eastern central and southern states. The IBT claims 1300000 members and the ILA about 65000, with the ILA mainly on the East and Gulf coasts.
Edward J. Bower, 31, of Great Bend, died from injuries after a tank wagon overturned near Heizer on Kansas Highway 96. The Friday crash occurred when a rear dual wheel came off, causing the vehicle to strike a culvert.

Skies cleared and temperatures fell across the mid continent as Canadian air push lowered readings by 20 to 25 degrees in many areas. Below zero temps were reported in parts of the Dakotas Minnesota and Wisconsin with Minnesota averaging about 10 degrees below. A band of snow stretched from northern Indiana through northern New York with 1 to 4 inch falls. Southeastern regions saw rain and strong winds with two small tornadoes touching down near Gallatin Tennessee and Russellville Georgia causing minor damage but no injuries. The AAA cites average vacation spending at 150 to 200 dollars yearly and Maine counts over 2000 lakes.
Hollywood reports that Jack Webb of Dragnet has snubbed his fourth Emmy nomination and criticized the awards process. Webb notified the Television Academy he is withdrawing his bid for best director in a TV film series as the Academy votes on March 17.
