First place for DAR report highlights student Shantton Curry
Sixth grader Shannon Curry, daughter of Steve and Carolyn Curry, won top honors for a Braille history of Georgia in a Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest. She earned a pin at a Douglas County DAR meeting and will receive a state level award in Topeka in March. She attends Quail Run School in Lawrence and also won the school spelling bee. Wind triggers city power outage halting Ottawa police and fire
High winds caused power lines to touch and short out a cutout circuit feeding the area north of Second Street to the river. Power remained out up to an hour in parts, restored by about 10 30 a.m. Emergency generators at the police and fire HQ kept doors and radios operating. The 911 dispatch center stayed online.
