Rural homeless housing plan proposed for Franklin County

Franklin County is invited to join Kansas Rural Operation Homeless, a state HUD backed program to create 36 housing units in Franklin, Miami, and Douglas counties including 10 in Franklin. Units will be existing homes with rent guaranteed by state and federal funds, administered by Johnson County Housing Authority, with local tenants paying only if able.

Ottawa Black History program honors local students

The Ottawa Black Awareness Committee held a Black History Month program at St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Ottawa. Cory Norwood received the Outstanding Youth Award as a senior from Ottawa High School who will attend Fort Scott Junior College. John L. Wilson received the Human Services Award as a lifelong Ottawa resident and Ottawa High School graduate. Local black honor students were recognized with gift certificates from Pizza Hut and J.C. Penney's.

Fairfax auto plant hopes ride out GM cuts
