Pleasant Surprise By World's LDCs

AP reports that fears about loans to less developed countries easing bank earnings have diminished as LDCs cut debt from 40 billion in 1975 to about 22 billion by 1977. Early repayments surprised bankers, prompting talk of reparations for lost interest as refinancing lowers costs. Countries like Mexico, Brazil, Korea, Taiwan, and Argentina showed progress while overall repayment pace may rise again.

Beef Prices On A Steady Rise

AP Farm Writer Don Kendall reports USDA figures show beef retail prices rising to about 1.47 dollars per pound, the highest in two years, with January prices up from September and pork prices also climbing. The combined rise is impacting the family food budget, and economists forecast higher meat prices in 1978, especially for choice cuts from grain-fed cattle.

Constipating Foods Dear Dr Thosteson

A reader asks which foods may worsen constipation and asks for a nonlaxative diet. The letter requests a list of constipating foods to avoid, in advice style, as guidance from Dr. Thosteson on dietary management.

Constipation and health notes with reader questions

A medical column discusses foods that affect constipation, noting no food is inherently constipating and that bulk helps. It mentions sugar and fat as laxatives, prune fruits aid digestion, and patient timing matters. Reader questions cover frozen shoulder vs arthritis, neck pain, sun exposure dangers, actinic keratosis, and ankylosing spondylitis with concise professional guidance.
