Senate investigators report indications that Howard B. Keck, head of Superior Oil of California, gave large sums to the Citizens for Eisenhower Committee. Keck’s personal checks and banking records were subpoenaed as part of a probe into a $2,500 capitation gift to Sen. Francis Case. The case prompted creation of an eight member Senate panel to review campaign contributions and lobbying. Separate items note Maggie OConnor’s prison sentence for armed robbery and a Fort Scott meter theft case, plus a weather balloon launch in Japan.
Franklin county survey of 210 pre packed items found 26 percent overweight and 4 weighed under tolerances. Weights used in stores were 98 percent accurate overall with 2 scale weights condemned. State sealer inspectors and local officials noted improvements since prior year.

The Navy said the 40-foot gas bag was about 700 miles west of French Morocco this morning. It was traveling east south east at 30,000 feet and moving roughly 140 miles per hour.
Funeral services for Miss Eva Chambers who died Feb 17 were held Feb 19 at Birchard Funeral Home Osawatomie. Rev William J Hastie officiated with pallbearers Charles Kutler Wayne Hutchson George Neuer Harold Cartwright Stanley Hutchens and A Hanfeld. Mrs Gertrude Price Mrs Anna Lee and William sang hymns with Mrs Nell Dollar. Interment was in Osawatomie cemetery.
Atchison resident Glen W. Beagle aged 48 died yesterday from injuries from a crash on a county road near Atchison's Bellevue Country Club. Beagle, a club caretaker and farmer, was injured Monday. Driver Lowell Morrill, 21, of Valley Falls suffered minor injuries in the milk truck collision.
State of Kansas Franklin County sheriff sale directed by court to sell at public auction the lands described as three parcels in section 27 Township 16 Range 19 including 4 acres and 20 acres portions and a 30 acre tract with a right of way claim. The sale is at the courthouse front door in Ottawa on February 28 at 2 pm with Glyon, Bowers & Bowers representing the plaintiff and John B. Pierson for the defendants.
A 72 year old Akron physician admitted in court yesterday that he performed abortions since 1943 at about 300 a year. He said his average fee was 200.
