Kansas House weighs clinic regulation for abortion services

Supporters say basing standards on an Arizona law would boost safety at Kansas abortion clinics, while opponents argue it would raise costs and limit access. The bill would regulate seven clinics as abortion ambulatory surgical centers under DEH enforcement, requiring licensed medical directors and life support and counseling areas. Critics from Planned Parenthood and Rep. Judy Loganbill say the measure targets abortion, not other outpatient centers, and would curb access despite broad medical facility norms.
